Summary

'Chutzpah' is about making up for the lost experiences and the nostalgia that some experience as being transgender and Jewish. The basket references the communal basket of yarmulkes often found in a Synagogue, typically for men, to wear- often of various sizes, patterns, and materials. As a transgender person growing up, there is a form of nostalgia, as well as a missing part of oneself when it comes to yarmulkes, as wearing one was so important for men to do, wearing one was to feel accepted and seen as the person they are, which takes and gives equal amounts of confidence - or chutzpah. Using the colors to refer to the traditional Jewish blue (tekhelet) along with white and pink to refer to the transgender pride flag- it becomes about being transgender and Jewish. Each yarmulke all appears differently in pattern, and amount of each color to exemplify the small yet diverse group of transgender Jewish people.
